Social studies is a school subject that is often undervalued by many students and their parents. The truth is quite the opposite. Social studies teaches valuable modes of thinking that is important for understanding the world we live in. Be it history, geography, or law and politics, social studies provides insight into the society at large, the cultures all around the world, and their unique perspectives. We expect to teach our students how to evaluate the significance of past and present events, by comparing an investigating several perspectives and their respective biases. Critical thinking is best exercised with social studies done right.
